About the project

Wates has submitted proposals for an £86 million project to redevelop Guildford Park Road Car Park in partnership with Guildford Borough Council, providing much needed new homes and revitalising an underutilised site.

The proposals aim to build 248 new homes, with 40% owned and managed by the council to create a distinctive place that is Guildford at its core. The masterplan will create a place unique to this location, a sustainable and modern place fit for the future. It will leave a lasting legacy for the Guildford community and, importantly, build much-needed new and affordable homes.

As part of the proposals, Wates will deliver a social value programme valued at up to £11 million. This will include creating new jobs for residents, alongside offering extensive training, work, and upskilling opportunities. The programme will benefit all age groups, including support for local community organisations, art projects, literacy initiatives, foodbank support, and volunteering campaigns.

Planning application submitted

The planning application has now been submitted to Guildford Borough Council and is available for comment on the planning portal.

BBC News: Nearly 250 homes planned for town car park site

Back in Summer 2024, the BBC reported on the partnership between Guildford Borough Council and Wates, indicating the proposals were coming forward for the Guildford Park Road Car Park site.
